Professor Yang Yiwu from the school of physical education has been granted a landmark research project by the China Student Sports Federation(CSSF), as announced in the 2025 annual research project selection results released on May 9.
Titled "theoretical and practical research on school sports' role in empowering educational and athletic powerhouse development in the new era" (Project No. L202501004), Yang’s proposal was among only four projects designated as "major research initiatives" in this year’s competitive selection.
With the longtime of dedicated research in sports pedagogy and national sports strategy, Professor Yang’s project represents a significant advancement in theorizing how school sports can contribute to China’s dual goals of becoming a global leader in education and competitive athletics. This achievement not only underscores his academic leadership in China’s sports science community but also strengthens the institution’s research capabilities in high-impact sports studies.
Rigorous Selection Process
The 2025 CSSF research initiative review panel, composed of several industry experts, evaluated and approved 68 projects:
4 key projects
20 general projects
40 collaborative studies
A college leader emphasized plans to "maintain rigorous academic standards, align with national strategic priorities, and cultivate transformative research outcomes" while advancing interdisciplinary collaboration with international partners.
This marks the third consecutive year the institution has secured CSSF’s highest-tier research designation, reflecting its growing influence in shaping China’s sports education policies.
